Trucks Laden with Sugar Cane Arrive from the Fields
While standing at the main gate waiting for security clearance, several large cane trucks went past us. They are a funny looking vehicle specially designed to interface with the loading equipment at the cane field, and the unloading equipment at the mill.
Picture if you can, the way they take the cane from these trucks. Workers on one side of the truck push chains through the wide slots you see on the trailers. As the chain goes through to the other side, another team of workers gets the chain and hooks it around the sugar cane riding on the trailer. A crane then lifts the cane off the trailer bed.
I can't help but notice how clean the roadway is here. Our guide tells us it is one worker's job is to pick up every piece that falls. Remember, little is wasted.
